FOREST CITY, Iowa, Sept. 22, 2026 – Waldorf University will be adding a women’s hockey program to its athletic offerings beginning in Fall 2027 under the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA).

 “The addition of the Women’s Hockey program represents an exciting new chapter for Waldorf athletics and builds on the already established hockey presence on campus,” said Athletic Director Chad Gassman. “We’re excited about what this program can become and the energy it will bring to our campus.”

Waldorf is currently in the early stages of building the program, including recruiting student-athletes and searching for a head coach to build the program. The head coach will play a large role in laying the foundation for the team’s first season in 2027.

“We have put a lot of work into our hockey programs over the last six years,” said Directory of Hockey Operations Mike Heitkamp. “In 2022, we grew from one team to two when we added our Men’s D2 program, and we were always trying to find a way to add a women’s program to the mix.  We are happy to announce that we will have an ACHA women’s team for fall 2027.  We are preparing to apply to the ACHA and will hear back on its decision later this fall if we are able to join the at the D1 level or will be required to start out at the D2 level.  Regardless, we are very excited to add this team to our athletic department and become a member of the ACHA on the women’s side.  The women’s team will be joining our Men’s D1 team in Mason City, IA as its home rink where they will practice and play all home games.”
